New Morehead City 146.805 Repeater
IRLP node 4554
On October 9,2003 Ron K4JDR, David
KF4MOK, Doug N4HAJ and Danny KD4RAA met
Art KD4KTO in Morehead to install the 146.805 - machine, to use with the W4ICW
IRLP
4554 node. The repeater is a converted high band Harris with an RC-100
controller running
25 watts into split DB-224 antennas at approximately 220 and 140 feet. The
repeater
is located right in Morehead across from the bridge to Atlantic Beach.
The repeater has the normal minus - offset and
requires an 88.5 PL tone. The repeater
also sends an 88.5 tone that follows the 146.205 receiver COS and IRLP audio to
allow
folks to monitor without hearing the CW I'ds and eliminate any local
interference. The
controller is set to send two beeps when a local signal is heard on the repeater
input
and one beep to indicate an IRLP signal.
The repeater will be normally connected to one
of the QSO Reflectors like 9200 during the week
and to the Raleigh Reflector 9210 on the weekends to allow participation in the various
nets.
Solid mobile coverage was reported from Cedar
Island to Emerald Isle along the coast and as far as
the New Bern bridge to the west. We welcome reports on any additional
coverage. Local contact
for the repeater in Morehead is Art Gill KD4KTO.
The IRLP node played an important part during
the recent Hurricane Isabel storm as surface reports
of the passing eye of the storm were passed to the National Hurricane Center in
Miami on the
IRLP-Skywarn net on the East Coast - Raleigh Reflector 9210.
